概要

今回の和訳はスウェーデンのパワーメタルバンド「Sabaton」の1stアルバム「Primo Victoria」より、「Into the Fire」。

曲のテーマは、冷戦下における代理戦争として有名なベトナム戦争において、アメリカ軍が行ったナパーム弾による空爆。とあるアメリカ兵の視点で歌われている。

雑感等

内容的にも野生を感じさせるような、非常にエネルギッシュな曲。

さて、歌詞についてだが、全体的に難しいところはない。
タイトルとなっている「Into the Fire」は、普通のSabatonの曲であれば「（銃や砲撃などの）攻撃の中へ」と訳すところだが、ジャングルの中での奇襲がメインであることや、ナパーム弾がテーマであることを加味し、そのまま「火の中へ」とした。

ベトナム戦争は、小説や映画などでもよく取り上げられる題材であり、特に「ベトコン」のことは有名であろう。
この戦争に限った話ではないが、戦争は人を狂わせる。その中でも特にこの戦争は、ベトコンによるジャングルでの奇襲やそれに対する恐怖が大きく、この曲でも主役となる人物がどんどん変化していっている様が見て取れる。
