概要
今回の和訳はスウェーデンのパワーメタルバンド「Sabaton」の1stアルバム「Primo Victoria」より、「Reign Of Terror」。
曲のテーマは湾岸戦争の「砂漠の嵐作戦」であり、多国籍軍側の視点で歌われている。比較的近年の戦争であるため、記憶に残っている人もいるのではないだろうか。
また、「you（お前）=サッダーム・フセイン」が何度も歌詞に出てくるため、「国に対する戦争」というより「サッダーム・フセイン個人に対する戦争」というようなかたちで歌われている。

お前の不信心な戦争に対する戦いだ
*「holy war」で「聖戦（イスラム世界だとジハード）」となるため、「un」でその反対の意味となる。元のニュアンスに近い形で無理やり訳すと「非聖戦」か。

Just like an insect we’ll smoke you right out
代償を支払う時が来た、我々のやり方でお前に支払わせる
遅かれ早かれお前を捕らえる

*最後、サッダーム・フセインが捕まった場所は隠れ家の庭にある地下穴であったため、それも意識してのものだろう。

*1「chaos」も「disorder」もともに「混乱」という意味があるが、前者は純粋な混乱に対し、後者は「order（秩序）」があっての混乱といった違いがある。

雑感等
イントロのツーバスが非常に印象的なこの曲。次のトラックである「Panzer Battalion」はイラク戦争をテーマにしており、この曲とセットになるような形になっている。
さて、歌詞についてだが、少々わかりづらい表現も多く、「Primo Victoria」に比べると訳すのが難しい。特にコーラスの「Ancient legacy of crime」は、曲の最後も締めくくる部分なのでうまく訳さないといけないが、ここが難しい。
「Ancient」はそのままだと「古代の」になるが、それだと意味が通らない。そのため、古代から現代まで積み上げてきたとして「積み上げた」と訳したが、もっと良い訳があれば教えていただきたい。
なんとなく、イラクと言えば古代メソポタミア文明など非常に古い歴史を持つ国ではあるので、そことかかっているのかなとは感じたが。
他に、この曲はSabaton特有の「微妙な歌詞の変化」が組み込まれている。それは、
- Your reign of terror must come to an end
お前の恐怖政治に終止符を打たねばならない - Your reign of terror will come to an end
お前の恐怖政治に終止符を打つときだ
である。それぞれ一番と二番の歌詞だが、「must」と「will」が違うだけで大きく意味合いが変わるというのが面白い。
